Comorbidity of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder with disruptive mood dysregulation disorder in elementary school children

Abstract

The aim of this descriptive study was to examine comorbidity of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) in elementary school children. The population included all elementary students with ADHD. To achieve the above aim, 40 elementary students were selected through purposive sampling. After certainty of psychiatric diagnosis of ADHD, a structured clinical interview of parents was used to diagnose the cases with DMDD. The results showed that seven children (17.5%) with ADHD met diagnostic criteria for DMDD. Based on this finding, for using appropriate treatment methods for ADHD, it's necessary to identify if there is a case of comorbidity of ADHD and DMDD or no.
