The Effectiveness of Play Therapy based on Parent-child Relationship on Mother-child Relationship and Internalizing Problems of Students with Anxiety Symptoms

Abstract

Objective: The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of play therapy education based on parent-child relationship on mother-child relationship and internalized problems of students with anxiety symptoms.
Methods: The research design was semi-experimental with pre-test-post-test along with the control group in the statistical population including all the mothers of 8-12-year-old children with anxiety symptoms in the city of Shahrood in the year 1400. Among the mothers of children with symptoms of anxiety referred to rehabilitation and educational institutions, 20 had the necessary characteristics in terms of entry criteria and scored lower than the average score in the questionnaires of Achenbach and Rescorella (2001) and the parent-child relationship of Pianta (1994). Were selected by sampling method and then randomly placed in two control and experimental groups. The experimental group received play therapy training based on the parent-child relationship in 10 sessions (each session lasting 2 hours) and the mothers of the control group did not receive any training.
Results: The results of data analysis showed that play therapy education based on parent-child relationship on mother-child relationship and its components (conflict, dependence and intimacy) as well as internalized problems and its components (anxiety/depression, isolation/depression and physical problems) in knowledge Students with symptoms of anxiety have an effect (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Therefore, play therapy based on parent-child relationship by following the child's desire during the game instead of controlling and guiding the child and in general the mother-child emotional relationship deepens the feeling of closeness in the child and the intimacy and closeness between the mother and the child increases and improves Parent-child relationships become; And the improvement of parent-child relations leads to the reduction of problems and problems between them and the modification of parenting styles, and the problematic behaviors of students such as anxiety/depression, isolation/depression and physical problems are also reduced.
