The Relationship between Affective and Emotional Composite Temperament Model and Vulnerability to Addiction according to the mediating role of Emotion Regulation in Secondary High School Students

Abstract

Objectives: Addiction has been introduced as a risky behavior, is a chronic, complex and global phenomenon. In recent years, the age of addiction has decreased and has reached the teenage years, which makes it necessary to identify the factors affecting vulnerability to addiction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between affective and emotional composite temperament and vulnerability to addiction, considering the mediating role of emotion regulation in secondary high school students.
Methods & Materials: This research is descriptive study of correlation and structural equation modeling, and its statistical population was all secondary high school students of Rasht city in academic year of 2022-2023, who were selected 368 people, were selected using the multi-stage cluster sampling method and responded to questionnaires of affective and emotional composite temperament, emotion regulation and vulnerability to addiction. In order to analyze data, SPSS25 and smartPLS software were used.
Results: The results of data analysis showed that affective and emotional composite temperament was directly and indirectly related to vulnerability to addiction through the mediating role of emotion regulation (P<0.05). Also the presented conceptual model has good fitness.
Conclusions: According to the obtained results, considering affective and emotional composite temperament and emotion regulation in the context of identifying students at risk and vulnerable to addiction is effective and it is necessary to use it in formulating preventive and therapeutic interventions in schools and educational environments.
