The instruments used in this study include the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (FNES-B), and the structured clinical interview for DSM-V axis I disorders (SCID-I). To implement the independent variable, participants received modules related to cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness exercises in 8 online sessions. To analyze the data, graphical analysis methods and to evaluate the significance of the changes, the effect size and recovery percentage were used.
Results: Data analysis showed that Internet-based cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness exercises reduce the symptoms of social anxiety in adolescents with this disorder. The recovery percentages in the one-month follow-up in all three participants in all variables are clinically significant. Also, the effect size in the one-month follow-up in all three participants in all variables is among medium and large effect sizes.
Conclusion: Based on the research findings, it can be stated that Internet-based cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness exercises are effective in reducing the symptoms of social anxiety in adolescents.
